| ACTION 3 |
| Implementation of data based technologies on board. |
| BEGINS: Month 4 (April 2010) ENDS: Month 36 (January 2013) |
OBJETIVE: To compile representative data from the discard characterisation protocols and technologies implemented in Action 2 and spatial heterogeneous data sources, to define a Spatial Database Infrastructure (SDI) based on a GIS server map model which will help in defining a suitable management environment of the fishing activity. |
TASKS: 3.1. To complete Action 2.1, a model-based precise estimation of possible by-catches/discards volume based on GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is defined in order to improve the selectivity of the fishing activity. 3.2. Implementation of hardware/software tools (defined in the project as red box) to efficiently create and manage real-time dynamic databases (which will include, in addition to the geographic position of the vessel stored at present time in blue boxes, position of the activity, volume of captures, composition of each throw, etc.) accessible via web by other agents of the network. • This action may require training activities for people working in the vessels and which will be on charge of the system. 3.3. In connection with Action 3.2., implementation of the electronic on board activity report of the vessels. 3.4. Definition of data transmitting protocols (via internet, mobile technologies – GPRS) of all the information collected on board from vessels to the central system in land. |
RESPONSABILITIES: CESGA will be the lead partner, in collaboration with IIM-CSIC and IEO. APV will collaborate to implement the developed solution into vessels of the target Spanish fleet and IPIMAR for the Portuguese fleet case. |
EXPECTED RESULTS: 1. Development of Geoportals of fishing activities (GIS models) and fishing impacts in a métier based approach for fish and shellfish stocks for the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula for the selected fleets. 2. Definition and implementation of the defined red box (one) and on-board electronic activity report in the selected vessels for data collection and transmission on real time. 3. Definition of technical requirements of the system, establish the protocols of communication, and server requirements. |
